After installing the update, the Windows Common Control Library does not work. The issue seems to stem around a defective installation or registration of the OCX file. This update causes problems with existing Microsoft Access, VB6 and other applications using common controls such as the Treeview and Listbox controls.

The symptoms are rather odd. It's not as if the control is completely missing or not registered. The control exists but does not behave correctly as events are not firing correctly. For instance, the Treeview control don't issue NodeClick events, so any code that expects the expansion of a node to display or load more data fails. It took us a while to discover that a change in this control caused this problem.
In other cases, users are reporting that Microsoft Access locks up and crashes. People are also reporting problems with this in Visual Basic 6 (VB6) applications. Here are additional reports of issues associated with this patch.
Impact on Total Access Analyzer
This impacts our Total Access Analyzer product which displays the results of your Microsoft Access database documentation with the Treeview control. This error appears:
Oracle Objects for OLE C Class Library. The Oracle Objects for OLE C Class Library is a collection of C classes that provide programmatic access to the OO4O Automation server. If your PC received the security update and you're using the Microsoft Access 2010, 2007, 2003, 2002, or 2000 version of Total Access Analyzer, the Treeview control in our Database Explorer view no longer functions properly.

At times, you may find that when you open files from SharePoint or OneDrive for Business they open in read-only mode.
Cause
There are several reasons why a file may open as read only:
- Antivirus programs may open potentially unsafe files as read-only. Check with your antivirus provider to learn how to adjust these settings. BitDefender, for example, has content on adding application exclusions here: How to add application or process exclusions in Bitdefender Control Center.
- If you have libraries with Checkout Required, or Validation columns or metadata, or when Draft Item Security is set to either Only users who can edit or Only users who can approve items in Version Settings of the library, these items will be synchronized as read-only. - An Office document opens in Protected View even though you enable the 'Open Office documents as read/write while browsing' policy setting. Resolution
To resolve this issue, one of the following methods may help:
- Instead of selecting the document title, select Open Menu (the three dots), and then select Edit.
- If the file is stored on OneDrive and your OneDrive storage space is full, you will be unable to save the document until your storage space is below your allowance. Check your free space on OneDrive by selecting the OneDrive icon in the notification center and choosing Manage storage, or go to http://onedrive.live.com, sign in, and note the amount of used space in the lower-left corner of the screen.
- If Office is not activated, or if your subscription has expired, you might be in read-only Reduced Functionality Mode. For information on how to Activate Office, see Unlicensed Product and activation errors in Office.
- Right-click the file and choose Properties. If the Read-only attribute is checked, uncheck it and select OK.
Other methods to try
- Restart your computer.
- Check that all Office updates are installed.
- Perform an Online repair of Office.
