With the latest update of Skype for Business 2016 MSO (16.0.8625.2121), the options for Apper Offline no longer work. I checked the registry entries in Computer HKEYLOCALMACHINE SOFTWARE Policies Microsoft Office 16.0 Lync and they are still there. Sign out of Skype for Business on Mac. On the menu bar, click Skype for Business, and then click Sign Out. After you sign out, you cannot send or receive messages, and you appear offline to other people.

The Microsoft Teams admin center has replaced the Skype for Business admin center (Legacy portal). All settings for managing Skype for Business are now in the Teams admin center. You must be assigned the Azure AD admin role of Global admin or Skype for Business admin to manage Skype for Business features in the Teams admin center. By default, anyone who can communicate with one of the people in your organization using Skype for Business can also see whether that person is online. Skype for Business shows whether a person is available online, in a meeting, offline, or another indicator.
As the admin for everyone in your business, you can choose who sees their online presence in Skype for Business.
Using the Skype for Business admin center
Go to the admin center > Admin centers > Skype for Business.
In the Skype for Business admin center, choose organization.
Under presence privacy mode, select one of the following settings, and then choose Save.
Setting | Who can view a user's presence |

Automatically display presence information | Any Skype for Business user in your business who has not been added to a person's External or Blocked list will be able to see that person's online presence. |
Display presence information only to a user's contacts | Anyone in a person's Contacts list who they have not added to their External or Blocked list. Individuals can override your default settings in their Skype for Business app: Settings > Tools > Options. |

Ensure that the contact is not blocked.
- In the main Skype for Business window, select Relationships
- Expand the Blocked Contacts group, and then verify that the offline contact isn't blocked
Note: If a contact blocks you, that contact will be displayed as offline in your contact list
After you add a new public IM Connectivity (PIC) contact or a new federated contact to your list, that contact will appear to be offline until the contact accepts the request. Verify That;
- Federation is enabled
- Federation with Skype is enabled for contacts outside of Skype for Business
You can't search the global address list by using Skype for Business

Skype for Business address book and GAL lookups are performed through web requests only. Skype for Business doesn't download or save a local copy of the address book. This reduces the load on the servers and provides the most up-to-date information possible when you perform a contact search. When you try to search the address book Skype for Business, you receive one of the following error messages:
“Cannot synchronize with the corporate address book. This may be because the proxy server setting in your web browser does not allow access to the address book. If the problem persists, contact your system administrator.”
Or
“The address book is preparing to synchronize. Search results might not be current.”
Verify connectivity to Exchange Web service is available. To do this, follow these steps:
- In the notification area on the right side of the taskbar, Hold down the Ctrl key and right-click the Skype for business icon
- Select Configuration Information, a new window will open.
- Verify that the EWS Status OK is present
- Verify that MAPI Status OK is present

If EWS not deployed or missing: Work with the Exchange administrator to ensure Autodiscover and EWS are set up correctly.

- Open a web browser and navigate to the EWS External URL. If the URL ends in WSSecurity, omit that from the address.
